How veneers placement is conducted

Ceramic veneers placement is a complex and responsible process, which requires a dentist and technician to be as attentive and precise as possible. Therefore, for ceramic veneers to last for many years and your smile to become harmonic and natural, it's necessary to run a detailed diagnostics of the correct operation of dentoalveolar apparatus prior to the teeth restorations.

Teeth preparation for veneers

Teeth preparation for ceramic veneers is made to prepare minimum sufficient space for ceramic restorations, which provides maximum preservation of tooth tissue. The thickness that needs to be prepared to get mechanical strength and esthetic quality varies from 0.2 to 0.5 mm and depends on diagnosis and treatment plan.
To define the scope of work and to provide quality of dental manipulations, the doctor does the following:
  • runs the diagnostics of dentoalveolar apparatus;
  • specifies the thickness of tooth tissue that is needed to achieve structural strength;
  • finds out the desired color and shape of veneers.

Placement of interim veneers Mock-Up

Manufacture and placement of interim veneers Mock-Up allow the patient to see how permanent prostheses will look like in the future.
To do so, the dentist:
  • carries out the photoshoot of the patient's teeth and computer simulation;
  • receives the impressions of both jaws, according to which the technician in the laboratory fabricates the cast models.
Wax simulation Wax-Up with the use of received cast models leads to the creation of samples of ceramic veneers, which meet the wishes of patients and the ones, who wear the exclusive variant. Received result in the form of special plastic construction Moсk-Up is milled with the marking burs to determine the depth of teeth preparation. In certain instances, the preparation isn't required.
The doctor demonstrates the patient cast and wax models to compare what the situation is like now and what it will be like as a result of the treatment. After all corrections and obtaining the approval, Wax-Up is moved to the oral cavity, thereat the size and shape of permanent restorations will correspond exactly to the interim ones.
10-14 days to manufacture ceramic veneers
Technicians in modern dental laboratories use a microscope to achieve maximally close fit of ceramic veneers to the teeth.
The process of ceramic veneers manufacture can be executed in two ways:
  • method of layering the porcelain mixture one layer after another, alternatively baking. In such a way, the technician works for the needed transparency and shade;
  • method of injection molding at a high temperature and under pressure.
Full anatomical contours can be recreated by adding the dentin body with minimum correction and smoothing with a brush. Since the incisal shades and special effects of veneers need to look diverse and natural, it's necessary to avoid clear boundaries around the separate layers.
Proper use of suitable materials and accessories just like strict adherence to manufacturer's instructions allows creating ceramic veneers with an impressive close fit.
Try-in and fixation of ceramic veneers
Try-in is needed prior to the final ceramic veneers fixation. It's done by fixing the veneer plate on the enamel with preliminary applied try-in mass. These manipulations are carried out to make sure of the correct selection of shape and color.
After the identity and precision of the shape and color of manufactured veneers, the dentist is getting ready for the placement. For this purpose, he etches the internal surface of a veneer with hydrofluoric acid to form the micropores. Then he carries out the sandblasting to improve the adhesive properties of the ceramic plate and washes with water.
The next step is a tooth surface preparation and a crown etch with phosphoric acid 37%, which forms a relief and improves adhesion. Acid remains are removed with water.
Ceramic veneers placement is carried out after the end of try-in and washing off the try-in mass. The internal surface of a veneer is degreased and dried and the tooth is luted with fixing material (composite cement), and the dentist evenly distributes it over the surface. The prepared veneer is placed on the tooth by gently pressing for better bonding, is polymerized with a UV lamp and finished to get a perfectly smooth surface.

The necessity to sleep with a splint all the time to get used to ceramic veneers

Considering the patients' individual characteristics, the dentists recommend sleeping with the splint on the teeth after the placement of ceramic veneers. This recommendation should be followed for intact teeth as well because it protects from unconscious attrition while sleeping, which can be caused by possible stressful situations during the day.
Splints are made of transparent material and they don't change the articulation. The doctor determines a wearing schedule. Splint's action is mild and it doesn't cause pain or discomfort.
You shouldn't forget that splints are effective also at the occlusion correction as well. They align teeth and make it possible to get a beautiful smile.
